Seattle Lightning on Acrylic

A print that your visitors will talk about

April 28, 2012

in News

Seattle Lightning, August 2010 – 69×23″ Acrylic face, metallic archival paper. $1500

Shot details: A unique view of Seattle taken in early August of 2010. I was hanging out at midnight looking for the northern lights when I noticed flashing behind me. I packed up and drove to the end of the hill and was treated to a lightning storm to the south of Seattle. I set up the tripod and snapped off 6-second shots to take in the flashes and here’s one of the frames.

About the print: 69×23″ printed on metallic paper via Epson inkjet plotter using black and white inks. The print is laminated to the backside of a 1/4″ sheet of very high-quality museum acrylic then backed with a 1/4″ substrate. A solid-wood frame connects the print to the wall which gives the presentation about a 2″ float off the wall. Come see it in person at Serendipity in Magnolia (23rd and McGraw, 98199). $1500 delivered to your home.

Available in smaller sizes. Contact me at: sean@affinityseattle.com 206-818-7187

Holly & Matt

Arctic Club Hotel Wedding

Arctic Club Hotel wedding

Holly and Matt had recently moved to Manhattan to take on new job opportunities, but these Seattle natives came home to be married at the fabulous Arctic Club Hotel in downtown Seattle surrounded by all of their family and friends. When we first met Holly over coffee in Queen Anne, she mentioned her desire to have photos outdoors around the hotel.

As the day approached, we noticed that the Seattle forecast was showing rain (go figure!) so we scouted out locations in nearby Pioneer Square looking for some sort of cover. We found such great spots including the Downtown Waterfall Park, the iron and glass pergola at the heart of old town, the fire station with its classic red doors and the amazing architecture of the Seattle Library.

On the day of the wedding, after giving Holly and Matt an opportunity to see each other at the hotel’s stone entrance, we were excited to see the clouds part and reveal the sun. We took advantage of this break in the weather by walking through Firefighter Park. Holly’s dress was so long it required each groomsman and groom to keep it off the ground as she lead the pack. At the pergola, we broke out the rented umbrellas and shot into the sun just passing over the historic buildings behind the group.

Back at the hotel, guests took their seats and Holly entered the amazing dome room with her father. Holly and Matt exchanged personal vows and a kiss, then recessed while the guests moved downstairs for drinks and appetizers as the dome room was turned over. When we re-entered the dome room, it was a totally different space. The cake was placed in the center of the room with the head table just about in the same spot as the bridal party stood for the ceremony. After toasts, dinner and dancing, Holly and Matt departed the hotel past their sparkler-waving guests.

Holly/Matt: We had a fantastic time with you guys! Enjoy the short feature I made from your photos and short clips I took between. Thanks for having us as part of your day! -Sean, Leah and Candice

Wallingford Craftsman

Architecture Film

February 2, 2012

in Films

Wonderful craftsman home in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood just up from Gasworks Park and the Burke-Gilman Trail. Affinity Photography did a walkthrough film.

This year, Affinity Photography is diving headfirst into wedding and commercial films. This short film for Anita Hearl of Windermere is a mixture of Glidecam maneuvers, Cineslide dollies, fluid head pans and a few jig shots using a Nikon D7000 and 24mm lens. Footage was edited down using Final Cut Pro X on a Mac Pro 6-core 3.33GHz system with all 16GB of RAM maxed out. Time to upgrade! (SSD also coming soon!)
