Welcome

We've dedicated this blog to retelling the fun details we experience with our wedding clients during their engagements and weddings. Many of our family portraits are these same couples we photographed on their wedding day. Whether you are just cruising through or maybe looking for inspiration for your upcoming wedding, maybe take a moment to comment on anything that you connect with. We also have a section listing many Seattle-area wedding venues we have photographed at and engagement session locations around Seattle. The locations with links are currently featured on our blog and we are adding previous shoots all the time.

Wallingford Craftsman

Architecture Film

February 2, 2012

in Films

Wonderful craftsman home in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood just up from Gasworks Park and the Burke-Gilman Trail. Affinity Photography did a walkthrough film.

This year, Affinity Photography is diving headfirst into wedding and commercial films. This short film for Anita Hearl of Windermere is a mixture of Glidecam maneuvers, Cineslide dollies, fluid head pans and a few jig shots using a Nikon D7000 and 24mm lens. Footage was edited down using Final Cut Pro X on a Mac Pro 6-core 3.33GHz system with all 16GB of RAM maxed out. Time to upgrade! (SSD also coming soon!)

Nick & Kelsey’s Wedding Crest Illustration

An extremely cool wedding illustration by Gaelan Kelly

Gaelan Kelly's illustration of Nick and Kelsey for their wedding

What to do when you and your fiance have off-the-hook personalities and want to show the world what an awesome match you are together? Exactly! You have Gaelan Kelly illustrate the two of you into your very own wedding crest. Gaelan is an über-talented artist that has a knack for nailing the details that visually describe your interests and expressions. He’s even great at illustrating portraits simply using the subject’s voice.

For this assignment, Gaelan used a recent engagement portrait of Nick and Kelsey, both pilots and all-around fun people (have a peek at their engagements here and here). What follows is the progression from the photograph through his initial sketches, penning and, finally, the watercoloring. What a final product!

Hit up Gaelan to get your very own illustrated portrait crest for your wedding!  Use it on your save-the-dates and invitations. Use elements from it for other printed items like your table place cards and thank you cards. You can find more info such as pricing and other examples over at his website here.

That’s crazy-cool, right? Post your thoughts below! -Sean

Continuation session with a vintage Beech aircraft

January 25, 2012

in Engagements

Black and white photograph of engaged couple standing in front of a vintage Beech airplane wearing aviators and leather jackets.

A few days after their first engagement mini-session in Seattle, we all met up at the Auburn Airport where Nick and Kelsey are becoming flight instructors to finish. Airplanes and airports are a big part of these pilot’s day-to-day so it’s only fitting to include it in their shots. Even better, we had access to a historical Beech aircraft that we wheeled out onto the runway. Classy! After this session, we used one of the photos to make a custom wedding crest illustration. Really looking forward to their upcoming garden wedding.

Engagement sessions should be more than a collection of poses and a pleasant background. When we go out to photograph a couple prior to their wedding, we use this opportunity to capture their personalities and strong emotional connection. If possible, we integrate locations that are important and meaningful which lends to more relaxed and natural [...]
